My name is Katerina and I am the owner and founder of Barking Voices. Mantrailing & Scentwork Scotland. I have been actively involved in dog rescuing for over 20 years.
From a very young age I have been surrounded by dogs of all types, and over the years I’ve had the privilege to work with lots of amazing dogs, and their owners/handlers.
I am fully Insured and do full Risk assessments for all our training and venues/areas. I am fully vetted under Disclosure Scotland – PVG.
I am a certified Mantrailing UK Instructor and certified Family Dog Mediator.
I hold a level 3 dog training degree with IMDT .Currently I am working on becoming an Ethologist/ Behaviorist through a 2 year full time master’s degree at the University of Cluj-Napoca in Romania.(Ethology and Human Animal Interaction). I also work on improving my skills with dealing with aggression cases through the 1 year course for Professionals by Dr Amber Batson
I have also completed the UK College of Scent Dogs Detection Handler course. I used science-based training techniques and reward-based training. This means it is just as much fun for your dog as you!
My doggy team is made up of six rescued dogs: Ira, Summer, Sofia, Rika , Periklis and Lucky.
After all these years I have come to the conclusion that many of our dogs “behaviour issues” are caused because of broken communication.
We tend to forget sometimes that our dogs are captive animals and by that what I mean is that our dogs have no option to choose their daily activities nor do they generally have the opportunity to express their natural behaviours, necessary for their welfare.
I used to think that a nice long walk and a good meal will make the dog happy. Having lived most of my life in Greece where I originally come from, I have spent much time around stray dogs.
Although in many occasions, they live in a hostile unfriendly environment with lots of threats and risks around them, I would even dare to say that they are happier than many of the pet dogs.
If we notice the stray dogs in their natural environment though we would notice that Stray dogs don’t run and they don’t go for long walks. The most common way to spend their time apart from sleeping is scavenging, foraging and sniffing.
My big passion is to help people and their dogs build their relationship again and to show to people how beneficial Mantrailing and Scentwork are to all dogs and especially reactive dogs
